Unix Timestamp Converter
Convert Unix timestamps to human-readable dates and vice versa. Enter a timestamp or a date to see both formats.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which timestamp formats are supported?
Both 10-digit (seconds since epoch) and 13-digit (milliseconds since epoch) — the tool picks the right unit automatically based on length.
What timezone does the output use?
Both UTC and your browser's local timezone, side by side, so you can spot timezone bugs quickly.
Is my input uploaded?
No — the conversion runs entirely in your browser.
The Unix Timestamp Converter translates between Unix timestamps (seconds since 1970-01-01 UTC) and human-readable dates. Timestamps appear everywhere developers work: log files, database columns, JWT expiry fields, cache headers, HTTP dates, cron schedules. Being able to translate 1735689600 into "January 1, 2025 00:00 UTC" (and back) without opening a script is the kind of small convenience that saves hundreds of context switches over a career.
How to Use This Tool
Enter a Unix timestamp in seconds and press Convert to see the equivalent date in both UTC and your browser's local timezone. Or enter a date/time and press the other direction button to get back the Unix timestamp. The tool accepts both 10-digit (seconds) and 13-digit (milliseconds) timestamps and picks the right unit automatically.
SEO Best Practices
Store timestamps as UTC seconds (or milliseconds) in your database — never as local-time strings. Convert to a user's timezone only at display time in the frontend, using the user's browser locale rather than a server-side guess. When logging events, include a UTC timestamp with subsecond precision so you can correlate log lines across systems that live in different timezones.
Example
The timestamp 1704067200 converts to Monday, January 1, 2024 00:00:00 UTC. Entering the same date in your local timezone converts back to the same timestamp minus your timezone offset in seconds — a useful sanity check when debugging timezone bugs.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
Don't confuse seconds with milliseconds: 1704067200000 is January 2024, but if you feed it to a "seconds" parser you get the year 55963. Don't assume Unix timestamps are always UTC in log files — some (older) systems record them in local time, which is a footgun. Don't store dates as strings in application-specific formats ("Jan 1, 24") when a timestamp or ISO 8601 string works everywhere.
