📊 Keyword Density Checker

Paste your content or a URL to see keyword and keyphrase frequency, and spot over-optimization.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Keyword Density Checker really free?

Yes — unlimited use, no signup, no credit card. We built these tools to help you audit sites without paying for a data subscription.

Does this tool store or share the URLs I check?

No. Each check runs live and we don't save your input. We keep a short-lived rate-limit counter (by IP) purely to prevent abuse; it is not linked to your results.

How accurate are the results?

This tool reads live, public data directly from the page or domain you enter — it does not rely on a paid third-party database, so it reflects exactly what is publicly visible right now.

Keyword density is how often a word or phrase appears relative to the total word count of a piece of content. In the early days of SEO, people chased specific density percentages; today there's no magic number, and deliberately hitting a target density is counterproductive. Where this tool is genuinely useful is the opposite direction: spotting accidental over-optimization (the same phrase repeated unnaturally often) and seeing at a glance what a piece of content is actually "about."

How to Use This Tool

Paste your text directly, or paste a single URL and the tool will fetch and analyze that page's visible text. Click Check Density.

What This Tool Checks

Total word count, the most frequent individual keywords with their counts and density percentages, and the most frequent two-word phrases — with common stopwords (the, and, of, etc.) filtered out so the meaningful terms surface.

Understanding Your Results

The top terms should roughly match what the content is genuinely about — if they don't, the content may be unfocused. A single phrase at a very high density (flagged in the results) is a sign of over-optimization that can read awkwardly and, in extreme cases, look manipulative to search engines. There's no ideal percentage to hit — natural, well-written content on a topic produces natural density.

How to Fix Common Problems

If a keyword is over-repeated, replace some instances with synonyms and natural variations, or simply rewrite for readability — good writing rarely repeats the exact same phrase over and over. If your target topic isn't showing up in the top terms at all, the content may not be addressing the intended subject clearly enough.

SEO Best Practices

Write for the reader and the search intent first; use this tool to check the result, not to engineer the input. Cover a topic thoroughly using natural language and related terms — modern search engines understand synonyms and context far better than a raw density count would suggest.

Example

Analyzing a 1,000-word article intended to be about "guest posting" shows "guest posting" and "guest post" as the top phrases at reasonable frequency, alongside related terms like "authority," "anchor," and "outreach" — confirming the content is on-topic and naturally written.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

Don't target a specific density percentage — it's a myth that a particular number ranks better. Don't repeat your exact keyword unnaturally to raise its density; it reads badly and can backfire. Don't ignore related terms and synonyms, which signal topical depth.
